Lucinda Cheke

Dietitian

Lucinda is a progressive, evidence-based dietitian, with a whole health approach to nutrition.

Holistic nutrition is more than just the food on our plates. It’s taking the time to reconnect with our food,
its purpose and its source. To stop and listen to your body’s needs, and to ensure you’re providing your
body with the right fuel to enjoy optimum health.

She believes we need to rebuild our connection with food – and to appreciate its original source was not a supermarket shelf.

She work with clients to create positive relationships with food, to recover from food-related disorders, to provide diet guidance for healing when recovering from surgery and illness, and to create a whole-health approach to food for anyone looking for help with food and nutrition.

When she considers health, she takes a ‘whole’ approach. While dietetics, physiology and good nutrition are her passion, she also enjoy running, swimming and yoga, and have experienced firsthand the benefits of good nutrition and a healthy lifestyle.

Lucinda is located in our Miranda clinic.

WEIGHT MANAGEMENT

A whole health approach

My holistic approach to food and health looks at the connections between body, mind and environment.
As people become further removed from wholefoods and their source, we are increasingly accepting
food which is highly processed and low in nutrition to be part of our daily diet.
By taking the time to listen to our body’s hunger and satiety cues, we can connect better with our daily
food needs, and choose the right foods to fuel our busy lives.

When we eat well, we feel more energised, and with more energy, we move more, which helps our
mental health. With that mental clarity comes greater awareness of what we’re eating, and so builds the
positive cycle.

Evidence-based

My approach is guided by scientific research and informed by evidence – my Masters in Dietetics means
clients can be confident in my knowledge and sources.

I’m not guided by fads, trends or weight-loss diets. Instead, I look at food as a source of fuel for our
bodies, and how the right foods can help us live our lives to the fullest.

I am a naturally analytical person, and research has become a core focus of my work. I draw from the
plethora of study and analysis available to inform my practice, and I am continuously learning as science
reveals more and more about food and its effects on our bodies and overall health.

Intuitive eating

Intuitive eating is an approach to food which can help re-build a positive relationship with food, based on listening to your body’s cues, and ditching harmful fad diets and restrictive eating.
In our fast-paced modern world, food has sadly often become an after-thought, a convenience, and even
a source of guilt.

Intuitive eating can heal your relationship with food, as we remove the guilt associated with it, and
breakdown the bad habits which have often been formed over a lifetime of eating the wrong things, at
the wrong times, with the wrong motivations.

Eating disorders and disordered eating

I help people to recover from eating disorders, including bulimia, anorexia-nervosa and binge-eating, and believe in a collaborative approach, working with psychologists and other health professionals to provide a well-considered treatment plan.

Disordered eating is an approach to food which is often the result of following fads or the advice of self-
proclaimed ‘experts’. Practices such as restricting certain food groups from our diets, fasting or taking laxatives, are examples of disordered eating, and these are often early signs that an eating disorder may
develop.

As a society, we are increasingly feeling the ill-effects of disordered eating – as people look to social media for guidance and strive to achieve body ideals which are not realistic or healthy.
I work with clients to help re-establish healthy and beneficial food patterns, in a way that is practical and
achievable.

Post-surgery, illness and bariatric nutrition

I believe in food as medicine and have seen firsthand how the right food fuel can help transform our
health, and aid in our recovery.
When recovering from surgery or illness, the right nutrition can play a huge part in assisting the body’s
healing.

I also specialise in bariatric nutrition, working with clients who have had bariatric surgery to choose the
right nutrition to restore health and readjust to their new energy and food requirements.
